Carabao Cup: Chelsea, Arsenal Through To Next Round

After struggling to impress in his first two Premier League appearances, Chelsea’s new boy, Kai Havertz scored a hat-trick as the Blues cruised into the EFL Cup fourth round following a dominant 6-0 win over Barnsley last night.

Havertz had struggled in his first two Premier League appearances, but the former Bayer Leverkusen star got up and running in English football in style on Wednesday.

Tammy Abraham opened the scoring in the 19th minute.

9 minutes later, Havertz found the back of net in what would be his first goal for chelsea and his first of three goals in the game.  

Ross Barkley made it three after the break for Frank Lampard’s side. 

Havertz added scored two more goals in the 55th and 65th minutes, respectively to bring his return in goals to three to crown his stellar display..

Substitute Olivier Giroud who came on for Abraham in the 72nd minutes also scored got his name on the score sheet 11 minutes after he was introduced, as Chelsea ran riot on the Championship league side. 

Leicester 0 – 2 Arsenal 

In another game or the night, Arsenal saw off leicester city with a 2-0 victory at King Power Stadium to get into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Christian Fuchs’ second-half own goal in the 57th minute gave the Gunners the lead after a goalless first half.

Eddie Nketiah bundled home in stoppage time to seal the hard fought victory for for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The result maintains Arsenal’s strong start to the season and secures a possible trip to Anfield to face Liverpool if the Premier League champions should they beat Lincoln City Today.
