Carabao Cup: Manchester City sends Arsenal packing

Mikel Arteta’s lackluster side had no chance against Manchester City, the Carabao cup defending champions who put four past the ‘unarmed’ Gunners at the Emirates to head into the Semifinals of the Carabao Cup.

The Citizens took the lead barely two minutes into the game, thanks to an unmarked Gabriel Jesus’ header.

The hosts leveled things up in the 32nd minute through an Alexandre Lacazette header, keeping things squared at the break.

After the break, City came at Arsenal with a pace and intensity, which Arsenal in no way could handle, scoring twice in five seconds to seal the victory.

Arsenal’s Keeper, Runar Alex Runarsson, all but gifted City their second goal when he allowed Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick to squirm through his gloves and right into the back of the net.

Not long after, Phil Foden added the third. There was a moment of controversy as the English man seemed offside after Fernandinho’s pass, but with no video assistant referee system in place, the goal was allowed to stand.

City’s fourth goal came from an unmarked Laporte who jumped on Foden’s cross to head home and sink Arsenal.

As for the misfiring Arsenal, who haven’t recorded a win in seven Premier League games and are sitting 15th on the log, barely four points above the drop zone, their misery keeps compounding, and of course, the fans are furious. We can’t help but wonder, what could be the problem at Arsenal?
