“Celebrities did Tiwa Savage a disservice”- Georgina Onuoha reacts to Tiwa’s loss of Endorsements

It is no longer be news that Tiwa Savage sex tape has been making the rounds on the internet, with several social media users airing their opinion on the situation.

Since the tape surfaced online, Tiwa Savage seemed unbothered about the issue but continued to share challenge videos of her new song, ‘Somebody’s son’.

However, some celebrities have drummed up support for the singer, as they uploaded her picture and hailed her on Instagram for owning up to her predicament instead of yielding to the blackmailer’s request. They also took to their respective Instagram pages to share her photos with the captions ‘A Queen I stand’.

Former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye finalist, the Angel, earlier slammed critics for blaming the singer. She wrote, “The problem will never be the fact that someone made a sex tape or that someone took a picture naked, the problem will always lie with the person that decided to leak it. Stop victim-blaming. And leaking someone’s nudes is a criminal offense. I hope one of you becomes a scapegoat.”

However, it’s been reported that the singer has lost four endorsement deals due to the sex tape scandal. The deals include one from Cadbury, a beverage company, Pampers, a diaper company, Glo a network service and one other over her leaked sex tape.

Reacting to this, US-based Nigerian actress Georgina Onuoha has slammed her colleagues and other entertainers for handling the sex tape issue involving Tiwa Savage with a shallow mind. She said Nigerian celebrities did Tiwa a disservice by calling her a queen.

Georgina said the narrative by many celebrities would have been ‘Say No to Blackmailer’ who breached Tiwa Savage’s privacy. Still, their ignorance came off as celebratory of the singer’s mistake.

The actress referred to Kim Kardashian sex’s tape issue and how she managed the narrative, went on an apology tour on every TV, and issued public apologies to save her brand.

Georgina Onuoha urged Tiwa Savage’s PR team to give a public apology on the issue for the sake of her family-oriented fans for letting such happen and even got to the media.

She wrote:

Personally, as Georgina, I pray Tiwa pulls through this. She is immensely talented and gifted. She has the world stage on her laps.

My colleagues did her a disservice with their “A Queen I stand” rhetoric. We all should learn to weigh issues critically before our support becomes an indictment of the person we are trying to support.

She took the initial step of going public about her being blackmailed. Which was proactive and smart of her. My ill-informed colleagues did her a disservice.

The narrative should have been, “Say No to Blackmailers who breached her privacy. Instead, their ignorance came off as celebratory of her mistakes. They did Tiwa bad.

According to PR EXPERT, Sometimes not all publicity is good publicity. Kim Kardashian went on an apology tour on every TV and significant talk show in America and issued public apologies to save her brand 15 years ago.

Tiwa is no longer a Nigerian brand; she is a global brand. I hope she pulls through this, learns her lessons, apologizes for this mistake.

If I were on her PR team, I would suggest a public apology, most of you will say it’s not needed, as her bla bla bla did not leak the tape. Still, if you understand PR, you will appreciate that an apology is necessary to her family-oriented fans, she apologies for letting such happen to even get to the media whilst also playing the victim because she is still the victim and then move on.

Do you know that with all the popularity Kim K has that some brands will never use her as their ambassador? You might say she doesn’t need it but trust me her team wishes those brands will contact her.

I am paying for some mistakes I made in the past (not sex tapes lol) but I learnt from them, apologised where necessary and faced the consequences and moved on”.
