Comedian Nasboi Reveals Why He Stopped His Davido Mimicry Skits

Popular Instagram comedian, Nasboi, known for making skits mimicking African pop star, Davido reveals that why he stopped the mimicry.

Nas Boi started the skit, “LowBudget Davido”mimicking Davido’s personality. The similarity in his voice between the character he played and Davido got him a lot of attention.

However, Speaking with Titi and Mazino on TVC’s breakfast show – Wake Up Nigeria, Nasboi revealed that he dropped his Davido imitation because he knew people would eventually get tired of it. He explained that whenever he went out, everyone called him OBO and he knew they would soon get tired of it. When asked if he likes that people immediately think of the DMW boss when they see him, Nasboi replied;

“I’ve played out of the character, I guess. Basically, people don’t talk about it anymore. I think last year or early this year, I walk on the street and people are like OBO! OBO! So, I decided to show some other characters, because I am very certain that they will get tired of the character. It’s normal, I’ve seen it. That’s Nigeria for you. They get excited over new things and all of a sudden, they’re gone. So I decided to show my other characters”.

It would be recalled that Nas Boi in an interview revealed that he was scared when he met Davido and Peruzzi, because he never knew what their reactions would be and the kind of people around him. However, Nas Boi met Davido in 2020 after several skits of him mimicking Davido went viral. 

Nonetheless, he has been able to create other characters – Akpan and Ikechukwu. He also makes dramatic skits with storylines, posts inspirational messages and videos, and also collaborates with other content creators like Josh 2 Funny to make diverse content.

Nasboi, who started making skits in 2019 revealed he was into music, before going into comic skits. He has also been seen in recent movies and he attributes his presence in new movies to the other characters he has created. With the advent of comic skits on social media, it is presumed that there is a lot of pressure on content creators/skit makers to make content regularly.

 Nas Boi speaking on the pressures of dropping skits regularly stated he’s not one to be pressured. In fact, he’s not all about the money. According to him, he does more than making skit. Asides making people laugh, Nas Boi reveals he does other videos to impact people’s lives. “I’m a comedian, I’m not a fool. I don’t copy, I’m unique. Asides making people laugh, I do some inspirational videos too.”
