Drake features Tems on Afrobeats record, ‘Fountain’

Drake just unlocked his highly anticipated ‘Certified Lover Boy’, enlisting Nigeria’s fast-rising artist,Tems on one of the tracks titled ‘Fountain.’ 

A while ago, this collabo was only a rumour but now it has been vividly confirmed. The Canadian rapper in some billboard adverts in Lagos announced that Tems will feature on the album.

“Hey Nigeria Tems is on CLB,” the advert reads.

Reacting to this achievement, Tems thanked the Canadian rapper in a Twitter post which reads,  “CLB Babyyy!Honestly I could talk about many things still to come. But what’s better than surprise? All Glory be to the Most High God.  Large Fonts you know hahaha , so grateful and honoured. So Crazyyy!! Thank you ⁦Drake”.

“Certified Lover Boy” is described by Drake as “a combination of toxic masculinity and acceptance of the truth which is inevitably heartbreaking.”

The CLB album consists of 21 beautiful tunes, exploring different genres. Drake collaborates with various superstars from different cities, this includes Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Jay-Z, TY Dolla Sign, Future, Project Pat, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, GIVEON and of course, Tems.

It was executively produced by himself, Noah “40” Shebib, Oliver El-Khatib, and Noel Cadastre.

Tems recorded “Mr Rebel”, a song of her own composition in 2018. She released the single, Try Me, in August 2019. Her single, Damages, from her For Broken Ears EP became another follow-up hit to Try Me and garnering about 2.7 million views on YouTube. 

In 2020, her collaboration with Wizkid on their song “Essence” earned her a number one spot on BBC 1Xtra Airplay Chart and also earned her first career entry on Billboard Hot 100.

Among the reactions to Tems’ new feature on Drake’s song, Vibe Magazine editor, Christine Imarenezor sent love to Tems and the other female feature on the album;

“Love to Tems and Yebba. I celebrate them both and look forward to more from their bright futures”.
