Edo Desides: APC, PDP slams continues

As leadership tussle heightens sequel to the September 19 gubernatorial poll in Edo state, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Edo governorship election, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike  of Rivers State, has called on the Federal Government to stop the All Progressives Congress in Edo State from perpetrating acts of violence that will lead to a constitutional crisis.

who was Speaking on a Live Television Programme, stated that the Edo APC is plotting violence that will lead to a constitutional crisis and suspension of the election. He described his party’s confidence in winning the electoral seat as against  the APC candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu which he described as no match to the sitting Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“We have a sitting governor who has done well and will continue to do well. So, why do we need to cause violence. They are so much desperate to take over power. Desperation can lead to violence. If you watch that video where Ize-yamu told those he called “lions and tigers” of Edo to move from unit to unit, you will understand the level of violence they are planning”

He further explained that the PDP is restraining itself as their desire is to have a free and fair electoral contest which is not the same for their counterpart whom he skans as being desperate for power.

“No progressive governor will support Ize-Iyamu because Adams Oshiomhole has already killed him with all the things he had said against him before which have not been denied.

Governor Wike stated that character would  determine who would be the next governor of Edo State.

On their part, Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were fuelling religious tension ahead of the election. The party frowned on the reaction of the PDP to the honorary Itsemakohna title(this is our own) conferred on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu by the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III.

The opposition said the PDP’s uncomplimentary remarks about the conferment was a slap on Christians and an attempt to introduce RUGA to Edo State.

APC media campaign Council chairman, John Mayaki said PDP is insensitive to the cultural and religious diversities in the state. But Obaseki’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie said the PDP has promoted religious harmony in Edo than the APC.

Also, the All Progressives Congress in Edo State has debunked allegations that it plans to attack the convoy of the state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

During a press conference at the APC secretariat in Benin on Tuesday, the state Chairman of the APC, Col. David Imuse (Retd), said, “It has been shown that the Edo State Government, in connivance with a retired police officer from Kogi State, who has been identified in a series of violent plots in Edo State and beyond, Mr.Yusuf Aruna, is plotting to stage an attack on their own convoy, specifically that of the Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, in a bid to draw sympathy, pose as victims, and set the stage for a new wave of violent onslaught on the people of Edo State.”

Aruna, however, denied knowledge of any plan to attack the deputy governor, adding that the allegation was new to him and disassociated himself from political violence.

“I don’t know what he is talking about. I am just hearing it for the first time. I am not a thug and I don’t know thugs. You should ask Imuse to prove his case beyond doubt. People should not just make political statements.

Will the incessant slams end after September 19? Who will be the best for Edo? this among other question lies in the heart of many Nigerians as they awaits the big day.
