EPL: Sheffield United makes history with a shocking win over Manchester United
Manchester United played host to Bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United on Wednesday and history was made, and an upset was caused, except it wasn’t in favor of the home team.
Sheffield United conquered Old Trafford for the first time and their history with a shocking and stunning 2-1 victory over Ole Gunnar’s high flying Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side needed three points to regain the top spot from rivals Manchester City. Still, a lackluster performance saw them gift the three points to Sheffield, handing the visitors only their second win of the season.
The Blades took the lead 23 minutes into the game through Kean Bryan’s header, off John Fleck’s corner.
The Red Devil’s trailed behind till Harry Maguire leveled things up with a 64th-minute header.
The visitors responded swiftly and got back in within 10 minutes as a wrong defensive decision saw substitute Oliver Burke’s side-footed shot deflect off Axel Tuanzebe and into the back of the net.
With sixteen minutes left to play, the blades held on for their first win at Old Trafford since the newly formed Premier League’s opening day in 1992.
Wilder’s side remains bottom, 10 points off safety, while the title-chasing Manchester United, whose unbeaten had now been cut short, are second, a point behind high scoring Manchester City.
Manchester United will hope to get back on track when they play Mikel Arteta’s resurgent Arsenal in an all-important encounter at the Emirates on Saturday. Sheffield United takes on leaders Manchester City on the same day, and they’ll be looking to complete yet another daunting task.
