Euro 2020: The Netherlands through to the round of 16

The Netherlands booked their spot in the last 16 in a Euro Championship for the first time since 2008, as they saw off Austria in Amsterdam to finish top of Group C with a game to go.

Frank de Boer’s side, who beat Ukraine 3-2 in their opening fixture, got their second victory thanks to goals in both halves of the game from Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries.

The progress means a lot for the Dutch side, who have failed to qualify for the past two major tournaments since reaching the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the progress of Austria, which started their campaign with victory over North Macedonia, will be decided in their final group match against Ukraine, who earned their first win of the tournament after beating North Macedonia 2-1 earlier on Thursday.
