Euro Qualifiers: France edges Ireland with a lone goal

France built on their opening game victory over the Netherlands with a hard-fought narrow win over the Republic of Ireland.

After playing out a barren first half, Benjamin Pavard drove home a fantastic screamer in the second half to put the French team.

The Republic gave the World Cup finalist a good run for their money and were unfortunate to have ended up with a point, as Mike Maignan made a full stretch to keep out what could have been a late equalizer.

With two wins in two games, France is top of Group B.

In the other group B game, The Netherlands bounced back from their embarrassing opening game defeat to France, with a 3-0 over 10-man Gibraltar.ย

A brace from Nathan Ake and one from Memphis Depay was enough to hand the Dutch side their first win of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The international break will be back in June.ย
