Europa League: Aubameyang’s late winner sends Arsenal to next round

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.”

The above phrase perfectly describes yet another Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heroics for Arsenal. The Gunners’ skipper scored a dramatic late winner against Benfica to help Arsenal leapfrog into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Aubameyang opened the scoring to give the Gunners a 2-1 aggregate lead.

Diogo Goncalves levelled for Benfica just before the break with a stunning free-kick.

After the break, Rafa Silva put the visitors in front, leaving Arsenal desperate for a two-goal lifeline to keep them in the competition.

Kieran Tierney pulled one back, and the Gunners were left hoping for just another goal and to the rescue came Captain Aubameyang.

Mikel Arteta’s side will discover their last-16 opponents in Friday’s draw in Nyon as they hope to get something out of what has been a rather drab season for them so far.
