FA CUP: Chelsea through to next round with a comfortable win

Frank Lampard’s men found their way back to winning ways on Sunday as they put four past League Two side Morecambe, in their third-round FA Cup fixture to book a place in the fourth round of the competition.

Chelsea, who finished last season’s FA Cup campaign as runner up, took the lead when birthday boy Mason Mount gifted himself and his club a 25 yards screamer in the form of his 22nd birthday present in the 18th minute.

Germany forward Timo Werner doubled the lead just before halftime with his first goal for the Blues since November 7, 2020.

Barely a minute after the break, Callum Hudson-Odoi made it three for the dominant host.

In the 85th minute, Kai Havertz headed home the fourth and his first FA Cup goal for Chelsea off a Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross.

The win will indeed serve as a great morale booster for Chelsea, who will return to Premier League action on Friday when they visit west London to take on City rivals, Fulham.
