Funke Akindele Gets Oscar Membership Invitation

Amidst her current marital crisis, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has been given the prestigious Oscar Membership Invitation.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences popularly known as the Oscars offered Funke Akindele its 2022 membership for her roles in popular movies: “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” and “Jenifa”, and is the only Nigerian alongside Daniel K Daniel from “The Fugitive,” and “A Soldier’s Story”, amongst the other selected members from over 53 countries and territories outside the United States.

A statement from the prestigious body reads:

“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 397 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity remaining a priority,” the statement read further. “The 2022 class is 44% women, 37% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 50% are from 53 countries and territories outside the United States.”

Following the news, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for her.

One of them was from Eniola Badmus who took to her verified Instagram page to celebrate her.

She wrote, “Oscar na your mate? Congratulations gurl”.

Funke Akindele took to the comment section to shower love on her.

She responded “Badosky”, alongside love and laughing emojis.

The actress and filmmaker won two awards for Best Make-Up in a movie for Omoghetto The Saga and Best Actress in a Comedy movie for Omoghetto The Saga.
