“Funke Akindele has not been named as  Running Mate to Lagos State Governorship Candidate” Lagos PDP

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has been reported to be vying for the post of Deputy for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate.

Reports have it that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Dr. Olajide Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor refused the choice of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour to be his running mate and may pick Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, as his running mate.

A top PDP leader, who spoke to Vanguard in confidence said, “He (Jandor) introduced her before elders of the party and local government chairman this week.

“You know, this thing has limitation because of the new Electoral Act (amended) which says the candidate has the right to choose his running mate, but he must consult with leaders and elders of the party.

“Since he refused the choice of Rhodes-Vivour, there is nothing we can do about it. He has since settled for Funke Akindele.

“I have never heard of her, but she was presented before the elders of the party. I understand she is a lawyer and an actress.

“The candidate will announce the choice of Funke Akindele soon.”

It was however gathered that some stakeholders of the party seriously resisted Akindele’s emergence which led to the delay in finalising the selection of the running mate in the state.

Reacting to the viral report, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the governorship candidate of the party, Dr Olajide Adediran, has not named Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as running mate.

Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Hakeem Amode, said the party was not aware of any running mate yet.

According to him, the candidate will soon announce his running mate without delay and everybody will know.

“It is not in my place to announce who the running mate to our governorship candidate, Jandor, is. Let us wait for the candidate himself to announce.

“Has the candidate of the party announced anywhere that he has picked his own running mate?

“What you are reading online on this, is it from the candidate of the party?

“The candidate of the party will announce who his running mate is and he has not done that. We should wait for the official announcement,” Amode said.

When contacted by Premium Times for clarification, Jandor simply dismissed the report, saying “I haven’t chosen nor announced Funke Akindele as my running mate.

“However, that stage will come in due course when an official public announcement will be made.”
