Harry Kane breaks England’s goal-scoring record in historic win over Italy

The Three Lions of England enjoyed a historic night in the Euro 2024 qualifying opening game, as they defeated Italy for the first time away, since 1961.

Three Lions captain, Harry Kane, also made history as he became England’s record goal scorer with 54 goals, overtaking Wayne Rooney.

Kane’s goal was a penalty just before the break, which took the scoreline to 2-0, in favour of Gareth Southgate’s side, following Declan Rice’s first-half opener.

After the break, debutant Mateo Retegui pulled one back for the host, and though England got reduced to 10-man after Luke Shaw got shown a second yellow with 10 minutes left to go, the visitors held on to the crucial win.

Off to a winning start, England will be looking to build on that come Sunday, when they take on Ukraine at Wembley.
