Headies Disqualify Portable over Death threats

Controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable has been disqualified by the Headies over his incessant negative attention and threat to kill fellow nominees.

Back in May, Portable earned a spot in the 2022 Headies awards nomination. He was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the year’ category in this year’s Headies Award nomination list, alongside Fave, Magixx, AV, and Ugoccie.

Out of excitement, Portable in an Instagram post revealed that he worked hard for the well-deserving nominations. 

He also released a video explaining in Yoruba why he deserved to win over the other nominees, and also threatened to kill anyone who stands against his win.

Reacting to his, the Headies stated that it might be forced to disqualify the singer if he fails to retract his statement and issue an apology on his social media pages, which he did.

In the latest development, Headies, in a statement said it regretted to announce that Portable had been disqualified from the award over indicting statements the singer had been making.

The body said the organisation had resolved to disqualify him as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.

Part of the statement read, “We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.

“Being subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, Mr Habeeb Okikiola is hereby disqualified from both categories of awards at the forthcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards scheduled to hold later this year.”

“The decision to disqualify Mr. Okikiola is accentuated by series of misdemeanours by Mr. Okikiola via his social media platforms. On the 25th of May 2022, he threatened to kill, harm or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of the awards he was nominated for, if he does not emerge the winner,” it added.
