Karim Benzema wins first ever Ballon D’OR award

Real Madrid forward, Karim Benzema has won the 2022 Ballon D’OR award. 

The 34 year old France international had an incredible 2021/2022 football season in which he scored 44 goals in 46 games and helped Real Madrid win the champions league and the Spanish La Liga. 

It’s his first ever Ballon D’OR award and he has now become the fifth Frenchman to win the coveted prize, the first since Zinedine Zidane won it in 1998. 

And to make it even more special, Zidane a former Real Madrid player and coach was on hand to present the award to Benzema. 

His teammate, Thibaut Courtois won the goal keeper of year award, while Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and youngster Gavi went home with the striker of the year award and Kopa trophy, respectively.
