La Liga: Atletico Madrid goes 10 points clear at the top with an emphatic victory

Atletico Madrid continued their excellent run in the form with a 4 – 2 victory over Cadiz to record an eighth consecutive win and go 10 points clear at the top of the La Liga table with a game in hand.

In form, Luis Suarez gave Diego Simeone’s side the lead with a stunning free-kick before Alvaro Negredo equalized for Cadiz.

Saul Niguez tipped Thomas Lemar’s cross into the top corner to gave the visitors the lead into halftime.

After the break, Suarez got his second of the night from the spot to put Atleti 3-1 up.

The former Barcelona man is now the sole top scorer in La Liga with 14 goals in 16 matches since his summer move from Camp Nou.

Negredo pulled one back for the host, but whatever hopes Cadiz had of getting into the game was caught off when Koke scored the fourth late on to seal Atletico’s win.

Atletico has now won eight La Liga games in a row for the first time since 2014 – and have won 15 of their past 16 league games, while Diego Simeone has become only the fifth manager with most wins in La Liga history with 214 victories to his name.

Barcelona 2 – 1 Athletic Bilbao

Messi scored his 650th Barcelona goal as an injury-time goal from Griezmann gifted Ronald Koeman’s side three vital points.

The Catalans are now second on the log, level on points with third-place Real Madrid, who suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Levante on Saturday.
