Barcelona saw off Sevilla with a 2-0 victory to move to second, two points off La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid who have two games in hand.
Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring for the visitors in the 29th minute off a Lionel Messi assist in the first half.
Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet had a header disallowed for offside – and then Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri also had one ruled out for offside.
After the break, Messi scrambled home a second in the 85th minute to seal things off and end a 10-game winning run in domestic competitions for the in-form Sevilla.
Both sides meet again on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, with Sevilla having a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.
