La Liga; Benzema’s brace elevates Real Madrid to the tabletop.
Frenchman, Karim Benzema was on target twice as Real Madrid beat 10-man Athletic Bilbao 3-1 to move level on points at the top of La Liga alongside Real Sociedad.
The brace, which came in the second half of the game, means the in-form striker has now scored 12 La Liga goals against Athletic – more than he has against any other team.
Athletic’s Raul Garcia was sent off early on after two bookings for fouls on Toni Kroos.
Toni put Real ahead with a well-read finish just at the brink of half time.
Ander Capa pulled Athletic into the game after the break on his second attempt after his first shot on goal got saved by Thibaut Courtois, but that was about it for the visitors, who did put up a good fight.
The victory means Madrid has now won four games in a row in all competitions as it seems like they on course to turn a season which they started poorly around.
Barcelona, who are nine points behind the trio, host Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
