La Liga: Real Madrid suffers defeat as Barcelona edge closer to title

Whatever hopes Real Madrid had of retaining the La Liga title has pretty much gone down the drain as they got handed a 2-0 defeat by Real Sociedad on Tuesday.

Both goals came in the second half with Madrid defender,  Dani Carvajal, getting sent off some 19 minutes after the first goal.

The defeat means Carlo Ancelotti”s side is now 14 points behind Barcelona who left it late against Osasuna earlier on Tuesday, getting off with a 1-0 win.

With five games left to play, it doesn’t seem like there’s much Real Madrid can do in the league, but they can focus their attention on the champions league, with the first leg of the semi-finals clash against Man City coming up three days after Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna.
