A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaja Kafayat Layeni, is being trailed by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) for allegedly presenting a fake West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate for the just concluded party’s local government chairmanship primaries in Lagos State.

In a letter signed by Dr O.F. Dacosta, Senior Deputy Registrar( Head, Test Administration Division) For Head of National Office with reference number L/EC/INV/121/Vol. 1/42 and addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, FCID, X-Squad Section entitled Attention: ACP Abayomi Agbana (Assistant Commissioner of Police).

“Dear sir, Re: Verification of Result Case of Forgery Of WAEC Result Certificate No 15823378 -Ms Layeni Oluwafunmilayo Kafayat.
This follows a reply by the formation to the Examination Council in a letter dated June 9, 2021, to confirm the certificate presented by the aspirant. The aspirant had been accused of presenting a fake WAEC O’Level certificate. But she, with her campaign organization, had earlier debunked the allegations, insisting that there was no substantial evidence to back the claim.

The letter reads in part: “Your letter referenced CR: 3000/X/X-SQD/ADMIN/Vol. 7/301 and dated 26th May 2021 on the above subject refers.

“Upon receipt of your request on the subject matter, the council examined its records to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the certificate, as attached.

“However, it was found that there is no record to show that LAYENI OLUFUNMILAYO KAFAYAT, as described on the certificate; sat for the general examination in December 1979.
“We are, therefore, unable to confirm the authenticity of the said result and /or certificate.”

Meanwhile, the aspirant was said to have gone underground since the exposure. However, a competent source at the formation has assured them that she would soon be arrested.

In a related development, the leadership of APC in Lagos State has been called by a group within the party, The Progressive Grand Alliance, to begin prosecution of the aspirant.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Comrade Lanre Adaramola, the group noted that the leadership of the party should ensure that the aspirant is prosecuted to purge the party of individuals who may have such intention and to further protect the image of the party.
The statement reads in parts: “We will set a bad precedent if we allow Alhaja Kafayat Layeni to go scot-free even in the face of overwhelming evidence against her.

“APC is noted for its integrity and core morals, it must ensure that these values are protected.”
