Lionel Messi realizes World Cup dream in dramatic Finale

The 2022 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France had everything, gave everything and set everyone on an emotional rollercoaster.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina had their eyes set on the prize and with the 35 year old Talisman at the heart of it all, they made sure to take the game to France immediately the kick off whistle was blown, shielding the defending Champions and forcing them into playing second fiddle.

The approach worked perfectly well, as the La Albiceleste headed into the break with a 2 goal advantage.

The stage looked set for Argentina to walk away with a 2-0 victory, until 23 years old Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi’s teammate at PSG, stepped up to take an 80th minute spot kick, and made no mistakes.

Just a minute later, Mbappe equalized, giving France a lifeline and redirecting the pace of the game.

Messi thought he’d given Argentina the winner in extra time, but Mbappe replied again, from the spot, and right there before our eyes, what started off as an Argentina vs France final, soon turned pretty much into a Messi vs Mbappe showdown, as the both players kept coming up clutch for their countries, when needed the most.

France could have emerged as last gasp winners, but Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez was at the right place, at the right time, stretching out both arms and legs to keep Muani’s shot out.

After over about 130 minutes of near wins, big saves, missed chances, unbelievable turn arounds and heart stopping moments, Argentina won the game 4-2 on penalties, and White and Sky Blue flags was all we could see at  Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

35 years old Lionel Messi broke down in tears.  His life long dream of winning the World Cup had finally come true. It was surreal!

Mbappe made history, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since 1966. But, even that and winning the Golden boot for highest goal scorer at the tournament with 8 goals, could not console the youngster who was hoping to historically retain the trophy.
