Liverpool edge past Everton in Merseyside Derby

Liverpool is back to being one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, after playing out a 2-0 win over struggling neighbours, Everton, in Sunday’s Merseyside Derby.

Though Frank Lampard’s side made Jurgen Klopp’s men work hard for the victory, the result threw the Toffees, who were last relegated to the relegation zone in 1998-99, into the bottom three for the first time since December 6, 2019.

After a goalless first half, Liverpool eventually broke through Everton’s resistance after 62 minutes courtesy of an Andy Robertson header.

Everton somehow failed to get a response and got punished when Divock Origi made it two with six minutes to stoppage time.
