Liverpool see off City to secure first Community Shield in 16 years

After failing to bag a quadruple last season, despite coming extremely close, Jurgen Klopp’s side have set the pace for 2022/2023 EPL season with a trophy.

The Reds who won the FA cup last season squared up against Manchester City, who they lost the Premier League to with a narrow margin, in a thrilling Community Shield showpiece on Sunday at the King Power Stadium.
English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, gave Liverpool the lead heading into the break before, newcomer, Julian Alvarez, levelled things after the break.

Both teams kept going at it but it was Klopp’s men who got back in front, through Mohamed Salah’s spot kick,  eight minutes to spottage time..

Liverpool’s new boy, Darwin Nunez, who had been a major threat since he was introduced after the break, eventually got his name on the score sheet just at the nick of time, to totally seal things off for the Reds, sending their fans into wild jubilation.

City’s mega summer signing, Erling Haaland, may not have gotten a goal, as he missed some really good chances, but he did show glimpses of what to expect from him when the new season starts next month.
