LP Renames Obidient Directorate

The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has renamed the “Obidient Directorate,” following criticism over the naming and composition of the leadership structure of the directorate.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, announced the party’s decision in a tarse statement in Abuja on Thursday.

He noted that the Obidient Directorate will now be known and referred to as the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.

Ifoh said, “Following the controversies arising from the creation of the Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs, in the party, the Directorate is hereby renamed the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.

“The inauguration will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the party’s National Secretariat, Utako, Abuja, by 10 a.m. Party members and the general public should take note.”

Remember that the Obedient Movement, which consists of over 200 support organisations, had attacked the LP leadership for establishing the directorate and appointing some people as directors.

In a statement dissociating themselves from the new directorate, the support groups accused the LP’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Comrade Julius Abure, of attempting to use the directorate to undermine the movement’s independence.

Empire had earlier reported that the Presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has said  the Obidient Movement is beyond a political party and  not directorate of any particular political party.

He stated tgis in a series of tweet on gis official X handle. His statement follows the recent decision of the Labour Party, LP, to create a directorate for the Obidient Movement in the party.

Obi noted that the membership of the Obidient Movement cuts across the political parties, sex, tribe, religion or geopolitical area, pointing out that the driving force of the body is rescuing and building a new Nigeria that is possible.

Writing in his X platform, Obi said: “I like to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate in any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement.
