Makinde Join Call for Ayu’s Resignation

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has joined call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu.

Makinde made the comment when the South-West PDP stakeholders met with Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in Ibadan, on Wednesday.

He stated that Ayu should step down so that southerners will feel “fully included” in the party’s leadership.

Recall that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has been leading the call for Ayu’s resignation for a southerner, being the promise he made.

Meanwhile, the PDP national chairman had recently requested  the acting Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, to help resolve the crisis in the party by reaching out to aggrieved members of the party.

The party crises deepened after the presidential flag bearer Atiku abubakar won the party’s presidential primary in May. Wike came second in the poll. He had claimed that Atiku’s victory was bent on the stepping down of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, who backed out after making his speech as an aspirant in the race.

Again, the Rivers governor was reported to be vexed after Atiku picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Wike had since argued that Ayu should step down for a southerner, as one region ought not hold on to key positions in the party.

In a bid to halt the lingering party crisis, Walid Jibrin (from Nasarawa State), resigned as PDP BoT Chair last week and Wabara from Abia State replaced him in an acting capacity.

Ayu had said members of the National Working Committee would visit Wike in Port Harcourt “for full reconciliation”.
