Manchester United ends Liverpool’s FA CUP run with thrilling comeback victory

Manchester United went from a goal down to defeat and sent Liverpool out of the FA CUP with a 3-2 victory in their scintillating encounter on Sunday.

Both teams had played a barren draw at Anfield in their premier league clash last week, and while that game was drab, football enthusiasts had hoped that Sunday’s encounter at Old Trafford would serve more and more it did produce.

Liverpool took the lead early on in the game before Mason Greenwood canceled it out with a sublime finish off Marcus Rashford’s correctly read pass.

After the break, Marcus Rashford put the host back in front with a brilliant strike following an equally good pass from Mason Greenwood.

With both teams breathing down each other’s necks, Salah soon leveled things for the visitors.

As the pace of the game progressed, Ole Gunnar brought on Bruno Fernandes to measure things up, and the Portuguese went on to impact with a screamer of a free kick in the 78th minute.

Edison Cavani could have made it four for the Red Devils with a right places header but the woodwork.

United needed not to worry about the missed opportunity as it didn’t come back to haunt them and Bruno’s beauty was just enough to set them up for a Fifth round clash against West Ham in February.

The defeat means Liverpool has won just one of their last seven games. The Champions, who seem to be struggling at the moment, will be looking to redeem themselves when they take on Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in the premier league on Thursday.

While Manchester United would be hoping to build on Sunday’s momentum and advance their lead at the top when they host Sheffield United on Wednesday.
