Nigerian music superstar, David ‘Davido‘ Adeleke, was featured on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Soundtrack released on Friday.
The track, Hayya Hayya (Better Together) , is the first single of the multi-song FIFAWorldCup Qatar 2022 Official Soundtrack. Davido was featured alongside American star Trinidad Cardona and Qatari sensation Aisha ahead of Friday’s final draw for the tournament.
It is the first time that the tournament’s soundtrack will feature a multi-song collection, with international artistes showcasing diverse musical genres that span the world, setting the tone for a truly global celebration.
While Netizens rejoiced and congratulated his big win, a fan @Olisaosega pointed out that “Davido featured on 2022 world cup song and not a single A-list artiste in this country congratulated him. It’s really quite unfortunate and he has the right to thing that the system is against him”.
Another fan tweeted, “The Nigerian music industry is against Davido, no artist posted about Davido’s FIFA song, but if it was the other guy, everyone’s account will be twerking for him. Not his fault he was born rich.”
Also, BBNaija’s Tacha stated that Davido deserves his flowers because he has worked his way tirelessly to the top.
“DAVIDO DESERVES HIS FLOWERS!! MAN HAS WORKED HIS WAY Tirelessly to the TOP!! (Day in Day out) Doing this for AFRICA. This REPRESENTATION IS BIG Let’s stop playing! He’s THE ACTUAL “GOAT” GIVE THE MAN HIS FLOWERS!! Love you DAVID”
Reacting to their tweets, Davido simply made a cryptic post,
“ME vs THE INDUSTRY !!! I LOVE IT !!”
In reaction to David’s post,
@DanielRegha wrote, “Davido it’s obvious ur colleagues barely support or applaud ur wins, but kindly check in with urself & improve ur attitude (if necessary) cos u may be the one doin something that gets on people’s nerves; The music industry can’t be against u for no reason. U may be the problem”.
@Dehkunle wroet, “When other artistes achieve big things their colleagues congratulate them, when davido achieves big things only his fans and gang congratulate him,God is bigger than them sha”.
@Darmson2 wrote, “When other artists are getting Grammys, Billboard Hot 100 entries, Back to back sold out shows, Dominating Charts globally you shouldn’t expect them to congratulate you for getting featured on a soundtrack alongside some unknown artists. This isn’t 2017 dawg”.
Meanwhile, Justifying the choice of the artistes in the soundtrack, FIFA said the idea is to “Connect with audiences worldwide through the shared passions of football and music.”
They added: “The entertainment strategy was conceived to create innovative and meaningful connections between football fans, music enthusiasts, players, artists, and the game and songs they all love.
“The combination of breakthrough US star Trinidad Cardona, Afrobeats icon Davido and Qatari sensation Aisha captures the spirit of the FIFA World Cup™ and the FIFA Sound strategy by bringing together inspiration from across the globe.”
Reacting to the single, FIFA Chief Commercial Office, Kay Madati , also added: “By bringing together voices from the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East, this song symbolises how music – and football – can unite the world.
“As part of FIFA’s revamped music strategy, the multi-song soundtrack will bring passionate fans closer to the spirit of the FIFA World Cup like never before.”
