Mercy Aigbe Issues Public Statement, Detailing her fight with Lagos socialite, Lara Olukotun
Actress, Mercy Aigbe has given an unfiltered account of what led to her fight with businesswoman, Lara Olukotun a.k.a Larrit, at an event in Lagos on Sunday, June 12.
In the early hours of yesterday, in a video that made the rounds on social media, Mercy Aigbe was spotted exchanging words with someone at the event. Minutes later, Larrit flared up and threw a bottle at Mercy, which later resulted in an exchange of punches.
This resulted in criticisms from Netizens who blasted her for being so classless as to fight in a public event.
In reaction to this, Mercy released a public statement, detailing the reason for her brawl with Larrit. Mercy disclosed that she and Larrit were acquaintances until she turned into an “enemy”, which all started after she got married to Ibaka boss, Kazim Adeoti.
Mercy accused Lara of previously attacking her online and that she took her hatred to the next level when she saw her at the event and began to verbally assault her.
Mercy claimed that Lara started it all when she saw her at the Sunday event and started to insult her verbally. Mercy said all attempts to stop her by other guests failed as Lara continued to call her unprintable names, and that she had to stand up for herself. She said it was at this point things took a different turn.
In Mercy’s words, “I have been bullied online several times by Larrit (Lara). She calls me unprintable names unprovoked, yesterday she took it a step further by physically assaulting me.
I was at a friend’s store opening (#rhemmygold) to celebrate with her. Larrit (Lara) was one of the guests. This woman, for reasons best known to her, slanders me online at every opportunity she gets. She has done many live videos and posts to this effect. I tried to reach out to her to understand what the issues were, but she chose to ignore me.
Lara and I are acquaintances. I have patronised her business, and she also has done likewise. So I was surprised and confused about how she suddenly became an enemy. I sent messages to her on WhatsApp, I called a few people close to her to understand why she would decide to be an antagonist. All efforts proved abortive.”
