NBC-Broadcast Stations: Do not patronize Twitter

Following the ban of Twitter in Nigeria, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has directed all broadcasting stations to suspend the use of microblogging media.

This was contained in a communique released by the commission’s Public Affairs department on Monday.

The statement which was signed by Professor Armstrong Idachaba stated that the directive is a result of the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria by the Federal Government.

Recall that the federal government had on Friday suspended indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

This was communicated in a statement issued by the office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

According to him, the platform has been used persistently for activities that are “capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

NBC added that the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence is behind the government indefinite suspension of Twitter.

NBC has directed that all broadcasting stations should not patronize the social networking service.

It further advised all stations to uninstall Twitter and desist from using the platform as a source of information.
