Nigerian YouTuber Emdee Tiamiyu reportedly deported from UK to Nigeria
Nigerian YouTuber, Emdee Tiamiyu has reportedly been deported back to Nigeria by the authorities of the United Kingdom.
Emdee became famous last year after granting an interview to the BBC about Nigerian immigrants, who are entangled in a financial scandal involving the UK government.
Tiamiyu was featured in a BBC interview, where he made remarks regarding Nigerian students in the UK, implying that many took advantage of the student visa system to find work and migrate their families to the nation.
The interview reportedly influenced the UK government’s decision to impose restrictions on Nigerian students, specifically barring them from bringing family members to the UK unless they are enrolled in PhD programmes.
The news of Emdee Tiamiyu’s deportation comes a few months after it was reported that he was reportedly apprehended on charges of fraud, sparking widespread attention.
Emdee Tiamiyu was accused of frauding the UK government of £160,000. According to reports, Tiamiyu misappropriated cash intended for resettlement purposes, were instead used by Tiamiyu to construct a house in his native Ogun State in Nigeria.
The allocation of the resettlement funds by the UK government was presumably to aid Tiamiyu’s integration and financial stability within the country, particularly after his asylum claim post-interview.
The UK government has yet to release an official statement regarding the arrest or the specifics of the fraud allegations. The situation remains fluid, with potential implications for bilateral relations and the international student community in the UK.
