Okpebholo Assumes Office As Edo Governor

A new chapter opens in Edo State today as Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) resumes duty as Governor of the state

Okpebholo takes over from Governor Godwin Obaseki who has been leading for 8 years. As expected, Edo citizens will desire good governance from the new governor. Yesterday, he had appointed 

The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital. Okpebholo took his oath of office alongside his running mate, Dennis Idahosa.

Recall that the offset Edo election was held two months ago where Okphebholo emerged the winner to defeated his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo.

Ahead of his inauguration, Okphebholo had appointed Fred Itua as the Chief Press Secretary. He was appointed to lead the Governor’s media team.

Earlier, the out going deputy governor of the state, Philip Shuaibu, has said he is willing to transfer power to the newly elected governor and deputy governor, irrespective of the presence of the outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki as there were speculations that he is out of the state 

Shaibu said, “I am deeply happy that today has come, and I am going to be handing over to a new deputy governor. Normally, if the governor is not there, the deputy governor will hand over. So whether he is there or not, I am ready to hand over”.

For anyone starting a journey, one would ordinarily wish Okpebholo well as he assumes office. Being an administration which was handed by a rival political party, the expectation from the citizens would be high. The ball is left in the hands of Okpebholo to deliver his promises to the people.
