Outbursts as a GoFundMe Account with N20m Target is set up for Baba Ijesha’s Legal Fees

Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha was released on bail some weeks ago for allegedly molesting a minor.

Despite his release on bail, the actor is still in dire need of a huge sum of money to foot his legal expenses. Friends of embattle actor have come together to crowdfund the expenses of his legal fees.

A friend of the actor identified as Oladele Matti, who resides in Dublin, Ireland, decided to initiate a GoFundMe account titled ‘Help Olanrewaju Omiyinka with Legal Costs’, with a €50,000 (over N20 million) target for him.

Explaining the reason behind organising the fundraiser for the distressed actor, Matti said, “Hi, my name is Oladele Matti and I am fundraising for Olanrewaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha Legal Costs. A gesture of support/Goodwill/Solidarity to assist with the legal costs of a complicated and lengthy process that will likely offer the best chance of successfully obtaining fairness and justice.

He continued, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, is a popular actor/comedian. he was charged to court on the 24th of June, 2021 after spending over two months in police custody without bail. An act, which breached his fundamental human rights. In view of the above, we, Olarenwaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha’s friends, fans, and supporters have started this GoFundMe campaign to give a helping hand to raise funds to pay for his legal expenses. Thank you for your love and support!”

This crowdfunding project came with a lot of backlash as Nigerians kicked against the GoFundMe account for Baba Ijesha. Netizens instead of donating, berated and kicked against the development. Here’s how Netizens reacted:

“A man sexually assaults a child then asks the public to pay for his fee . What about the victim? GoFundMe created for an alleged rapist and child molester??” a twitter user blasted.

“Owa ga bayi oooooo, Who are those donating? They think the public are fools like them,” another angry Twitter user wrote.

ouchcleo said: “The impunity in this country ehh. I wonder how we got here.” 

talkabouteunice_ said: “God!!! these people keep doing more annoying stuff everyday.” 

ebeowo_closet said: “As a guy am really disappointed with what am seeing here.”

 ebun_diene said: “Oh my, i’m for real ashamed of my fellow citizens.”

However, as at the time of this report, only €20 has been raised since the account was set up.
