PDP Crisis: Okowa says Party Working to Reach G5

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, stated that the party is making serious efforts to reach out to the G5 PDP governors.

This was said by Okowa during a meeting with other South-South PDP governors, including Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa), at the Government House in Yenagoa, the capital of the state of Bayelsa.

Okowa asserts that the PDP is worried about the G5 and would like to include them in the party’s overall plans.

The governor of Delta promised a meeting between PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the five disgruntled governors.

He said, “We believe that we are one family. There are still issues, and they are being attended to. Very soon, there will be a meeting between the presidential candidate with the G5 governors,” he said.

“They are part of the family, and we will not allow them to go. So, everything is being put in place to reconcile all differences and move together as a family.”

Speaking during the gathering, Governor Diri referred to the South-South as the PDP’s heartland and predicted that the party would win the general election of the next year at all levels.

He said, “We are one. In a family, there are always disputes. Those disputes do not separate us. We will resolve them, and we will continue to push on as one.

“South-South is a PDP region. South-South is a place where no other party can contend except PDP. I assure you that in all the elections from the presidency to the governorship, the national assembly and the state assembly, PDP will again triumph.”

Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, has been called to quit because northerners shouldn’t occupy the flag bearer position, according to the G5 group chaired by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

However, following their (the G5 governors’) meeting in Lagos, the governors changed their name to the Integrity Group and reiterated their stance not to endorse their party’s presidential nominee until the National chairman is removed.
