People cannot be ruled by force-Iyorwuese Hagher.

The Governor of Zamfara State has been urged to stop intimidating members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the All Progressives Congress.

The call was made, Tuesday in Gusau by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and chairman, Bukola Saraki Presidential Contact and Advocacy Committee, Iyorwuese Hagher, during a courtesy visit in honor of Saraki’s presidential aspiration.

The party chieftain noted that “People cannot be ruled by force”. According to him, “The fact is that you cannot rule people by force, you cannot rule people by intimidation or blackmail.

“You cannot use intimidation in democracy to force people to be members of your party. This is specifically what the APC government is doing in this state of Zamfara.”

“We are aware that for three times the APC government wanted to pull down the PDP headquarters in Zamfara because the deputy governor did not decamp to APC with the governor.”

He frowned that the Deputy Governor, Mahdi Gusau, was removed from office and described the process as an abuse of the judicial system.

According to him, “The flagrant abuse of due process and the ridiculous extent to which they want to reduce the judiciary of this country is unacceptable to Nigerian people.”

He added that Nigerians are not happy with the removal of the deputy governor; they are firmly behind him.

He called on residents to elect only people of unquestionable integrity in the coming general elections.

Recall that the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Gusau, was removed from office by lawmakers in the State House of Assembly last week after his impeachment. Members of the Assembly fast-tracked the Deputy Governor’s impeachment the previous week after he called the lawmakers ‘illiterates’ at a press briefing, premium times reported.

However, there had been indications that after Governor Bello Matawalle defected to the ruling party, all efforts to get his deputy to join him proved abortive.
