“Portable is not bigger than the Law”- Police speaks on attempt to arrest Singer Portable

In the early hours of Tuesday, March 28, some Nigerian police officers stormed Fast-rising street singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable’s bar in an attempt to arrest him.

Portable, who went live on Instagram during the drama, was seen confronting the officers as he asks what he had done to warrant the arrest. He requested to see their ID cards while reiterating that he had not committed any crime.

According to him, he makes his money only through legal means and has done nothing wrong to warrant such treatment from the Nigerian police.

In one of the videos, Portable’s staff alleged that the officers were at the bar to arrest Portable on the order of an Internet fraudster popularly known as “Yahoo Boy.”.

“Yahoo boy carry police come arrest musician”, Portable was heard saying in one of the videos.

Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told the BBC that Portable was asked to report himself to the police on five occasions, but he refused to honor the invitation, hence the reason for the invasion.

Abimbola clearly stated that Portable is not above the law, and as such

“We have also sent an invitation to him through his father twice for questioning after a report was lodged against him. The police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for him following his refusal to honour the invitation.

“On sighting the police, Portable stripped himself naked so as to create a scene. Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him,” he said.
