Replace Attahiru with Southeast Officer

The apex Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to replace the late Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru with any officer of his choice from the South-East geo-political zone.

This was communicated yesterday in press statement issued by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of the group.

The group  noted however that the President should focus on competence and nationalism in accordance with the tenets of Federal character while choosing.

According to the group, “We are not lobbying for a southeast officer as alternative of the late COAS  but we are drawing the attention of President Buhari to evaluate the privilege of being unpredictable and reversing the wrong suspicions that he is biased against the southern Nigeria leading the Army.

“Every geo-political zone should be represented in the security Council to boast national reintegration and restoration of confidence amongst other Nigerians. Mr President belongs to nobody but everyone, the change of body language of President will energize every Nigerian to partake in the fight  against insurgency and insecurity challenges facing the country.”

The group noted that they were convinced that a southeasterner breeds the magic wands to disassemble all the unpatriotic coalitions reaping the considerable budgetary allocation mapped out for security purposes.

“We are unmistakable that if President Buhari is determined to end up the insecurity challenges confronting the nation, he should break the spell and terrify those immoral elements pressurizing him to undermine the south and re appoint another northerner for COAS, but definitely. The promising direction to re assert himself as the people’s President is for Mr. President to ordain a Southern COAS”.

Meanwhile, on his part, the Former Presidential aide and author, Reno Omokri has called on President Buhari to consider an Igbo military officer to replace the late Chief of Army Staff. Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.

Omokiri noted thatthis move will help cease the fight of secessionists.

”The best way to fight the rise of secessionists in the Southeast is not with guns, bullets and helicopter gunships. Give them development. Stop your nepotism. Be fair and balanced in your appointments. Consider an Igbo man to replace General Attahiru. Abandon the 97% versus 5% mentality.
