Reps, NGF Call for Justice over Ortom’s Attack
Members of the House of Representaves has reacted to the recent aack on the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom. The Lawmakers who condemned the acon during the plenary on Tuesday described it as an indicaon of anarchy and full-scale lawlessness in the country .The house, however, lauded the President, Muhammadu Buhari for his immediately response and aconof ordering an invesgaon into the incident. They urged security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to jusce, to serve as a deterrent to others .Meanwhile, The Nigeria Governor’s Forum, NGF had earlier condemned Saturday’s aack on Governor Samuel Ortom , describing it as shocking and a rude awakening. The chairman of the forum and governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi stated this on Sunday while empathizing with Ortom and the people of Benue State on the sad incident.It will be noted that gunmen suspected to be herdsmen aacked Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Saturday at Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko road in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state. Governor Ortom described the gunmen as ‘herdsmen’, noted that about 15 of the aackers trailed him to the river bank where he was on foot.In a communique by Governor Fayemi, he noted that all hands must be on deck to uncover the idenesof those who perpetrated the act.“The NGF wishes to state categorically that the aempt to make Benue State ungovernable is unacceptable and will fail woefully.“ Only recently the brother of one of the former governors of the state was mowed down in cold blood. This dishonourable and shameful act of resorng to violence, for whatever reason, to eliminate cizens of Benue State by brutal means must not connue.“The NGF as a pla9orm for all the 36 Governors will continue to encourage its members to stand <rm in the service of their people regardless of the evil machinaons of those who do not wish Nigeria well. “Evil will not be allowed to triumph over good, not in Benue and not anywhere in this country,” the statement partly read. The NGF chairman further said all governors will lend their voices to pray for Governor Ortom, insisng that perpetrators be brought to jusce as their wicked acts will be uncovered, no maer how long it will take.
