Russia Criticizes U.S. Democracy

The American Democracy has been faulted and criticized due to the aftermath of the November 3 elections.

A senior Russian lawmaker, and chair of the Russian upper house’s foreign affairs committee, Konstantin Kosachyov, said on Thursday that the U.S.
democracy is “limping on both feet.” This follows the aftermath of Wednesday’s incident on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump.
Kosachyov said the dramatic events in the U.S. capital showed that Washington had no right to lecture other countries on Democracy.

He reacted to the aftermath of the election through his Facebook page. According to him:
“The losing side has more than enough grounds to accuse the winner of falsifications — it is clear that American democracy is limping on both feet,” Kosachyov said in a post on Facebook.

“The celebration of Democracy has ended. It has, unfortunately, hit rock bottom, and I say this without a hint of gloating.

“America no longer charts the course and so has lost all right to set it. And, even more so, to impose it on others.”

Moscow has long bristled at U.S. criticism of the state of Russian Democracy under President Vladimir Putin, accusing Washington of hypocrisy and condescension.

Russian commentators said U.S. decline followed Trump’s refusal to accept the results of November’s election and has led to divisions in the United States.

Recall that Joe Biden, the democratic candidate of the November 3rd election, defeated President Donald Trump. Still, Trump had alleged that Biden won through electoral malpractice and fraud.

Trump took to the country’s Supreme court, listing many states he assumed the fraud took place. Yesterday, his effort to convince the world of the alleged electoral malpractice he accused Biden of was put to rest as Congress certified Biden’s victory.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmaker has called for Donald Trump’s removal from office for inciting a violent mob that stormed the Capitol.

Back home, former Vice President and PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said: “Democracy, as it is often said, is a process. With the culmination of the process certifying the electoral vote of Joe Biden as the next President of the United States, it is clear that strong institutions are vital to the sustainability of Democracy.

“This is a lesson to be learnt: that strong institutions and not strong personalities are the bulwark of a rich democratic culture.”
With the aftermath of U.S. elections, what is your thought on the nation’s Democracy, which has always been held in high esteem?
