Shakira and Gerard Piqué Split After 11 Year Relationship

Shakira and her longtime partner Gerard Piqué have called it quit after 11 years together.

This was made known in a joint statement released by Shakira’s publicists but made no mention of Pique’s alleged cheating.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the statement read. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

According to their statement, there is no confirmed reason for their split, although, reports in Spain claim Piqué was ‘staying alone in his own apartment for weeks’ following Shakira’s discovery of his alleged infidelity.

Shakira and Piqué met in South Africa while shooting the video for “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa),” which served as the anthem for 2010’s FIFA World Cup. They confirmed they were in a relationship a year later.

Their first child, a boy named Milan, was born in January 2013.

The former couple welcomed their second child, a boy named Sasha, in January 2015.
