Singer Portable Arrested For Alleged Criminal Defamation, Threats To Life
Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has once again landed in legal trouble, this time over serious allegations involving criminal defamation and threats to life.
According to a statement released by the Kwara State Police Command, Portable was arrested following a petition filed by legendary Fuji musician Mr. Okunola Saheed, widely known as Saheed Osupa. The petition accused Portable of using “abusive and defamatory language” that could incite violence and severely damage Osupa’s reputation.
The police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that the petition detailed multiple offenses including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi in Ilorin.
”The suspect was arrested following a petition received from one Mr Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa,”.
”Police detectives in Kwara command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.
“The petition borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting words,” the statement read.
Acting on a valid warrant obtained from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, law enforcement officers tracked Portable to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he was arrested on Saturday, April 13, 2025, at around 7:25 p.m.
“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
Acting on this warrant, operatives from the command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun, on Saturday, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs,” she said.
He was immediately transferred to Ilorin, where his statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both sides. The police have confirmed that Portable is still in custody and will be charged to court soon.
This development comes as yet another chapter in Portable’s ongoing string of controversies. Known for his erratic public behavior and constant clashes with law enforcement and fellow entertainers, Portable has built a reputation for being unpredictable, often fueling drama on social media.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified claims. SP Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized the Command’s commitment to transparency and the rule of law, adding that justice will be pursued fairly.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information,” she said.
