Singer Portable Releases Official Apology Statement to Headies
Controversial singer, Portable has retracted his threats against Headies award nominees. He has also tendered his apology to the organizers of Headies Awards 2022.
It will be recalled that back in May, Portable who was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories had threatened to kill anyone who wins any of the categories in his place. Portable threatened the life of his opponent who wins the award over him.
Hours after his post, Headies threatened to disqualify him if he doesn’t retract his statement. It stated that it doesn’t condone or accept such behavior and as such he should be disregarded.
The Headies also revealed that the Police have been alerted should anything go wrong, and called for him to retract his statement likewise tender a written apology to nominees in both categories or risk losing his award.
“Should Mr Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law.
The general public are hereby implored to disregard the video and stop the dissemination of the same in the public space,” the Headies noted.
The singer had given a rather awkward apology on Instagram, stating that he was only joking and catching cruises and meant no harm to anyone.
According to the singer, there is no fight between him and his co-nominee but his award should be given to him.
Referring to himself as a “madman musician”, Portable noted that he wasn’t fighting with the organisers.
He said, “Headies don nominate “madman” olorin. Streets ti take over. So make una give us our award o. No vex o, bros. Bros, no vex o. If I fuck up, no be me first dey fuck up. Plenty people don dey fuck up. Abeg I wan collect my award.”
Realizing the seriousness of events, Portable took to his Instagram page this morning, June 21, and issued an official statement where he apologised and retracted his statement of threats.
