Tems Makes History, Becomes First Nigerian Artiste To Debut No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100

Nigerian Afrobeat star, Tems has made history as the first Nigerian artist to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her feature on Future’s Wait For U.

The track, which also features Drake, is Future’s second Hot 100 lead single, Drake’s 10th and Tems’ landmark No.1

“Wait For U” was released on April 29 on Future’s album I Never Liked You via Freebandz/Epic Records, and its official video premiered on May 5. The song is the 1,137th No. 1 in the Hot 100’s 63-year history, and the 61st to debut at the top.

“Wait For U” has been streamed a total of 40.2 million times, with 7.9 million radio airplay audience impressions and 6,400 downloads sold in the April 29-May 5 tracking week, according to Luminate via Billboard.

The song’s accompanying medieval-inspired music video was released on May 5 and is currently sitting at No. 3 on YouTube’s trending music page with 5 million views and counting.

“Wait For U” joins three more tracks from the album in the top 10, including “Puffin on Zootiez” at No. 4, “712PM” at No. 8, and “I’m Dat N***a” at No. 10.
