Copying your colleague in the industry is neither a bad nor a good thing, be it international or local content, name or style, as it is now common in the entertainment industry, most especially the music industry.
As much as foreign musician collaborates with our Nigerian musician, we are bound to see either of them infuse their style of music in what they do, in one way or the other.
This is a typical case of American rapper The Weekend, as he gets dragged on tweeter for copying Nigerians popular musician WIZKID, starting from his brand name Starboy as well as his recent single featuring H.E.R which he titled Smile.
In a recent post on the weekends social media platform, he posted his new single Smile that will be coming up soon as well as his new signature name Starboy, and most of Wizkids fans are not taking it likely with the weekend as they dragged him out while praising Wizkid for always leading while others keeps following.
Mind you, American singer Katty Perry also posted about her album which she also titled smile.
Truth is, the entertainment industry is a place where we should expect the unexpected as anyone can twist or play around others song, or song title. Even Mayorkun in his gang song copied it from Migos as they also had already sang about gang which the video and lyrics of both songs passed the same message.
But then, seeing Nigerians dragging the weekend on social media, do you think it’s telling well on Nigerians or Wizkid as a brand???
