Tinubu, Shittima to Receive National Honours on May 25th

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi has revealed that on Thursday, May 25th, President Muhammadu Buhari will confer National Honours on President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima. 

Ogunlesi noted this on his Twitter handle, stating that the duo will be conferred with the National Honours of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON).

He added that Buhari will also officially hand over Transition Documents to the incoming Administration.

Meanwhile, Ogunlesi has said that the 2023 transition process will be the most organized and seamless Presidential Transition in the history of Nigeria. The event he said is enabled by Executive Order 14 which President Buhari signed. 

Recall that on February 9, President Buhari said he had signed Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 on the Facilitation and Management of Presidential Transitions. The new Executive Order puts in place a legal framework for the seamless transition of power from one Presidential Administration to another.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has confirmed the investiture of the President-Elect and Vice-President-Elect with the National Honors of GCFR and GCON. He noted that the exercise will take place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

He added that an Inauguration Lecture on the topic: Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development by His Excellency, Uhuru M. Kenyatta, former President of Kenya will take place on Saturday 27th May.

This he said will be followed closely by a Children’s Day Program which would involve a parade and a party for the kids.

Mustapha added that an interdenominational church service will be held on Sunday, January 28, at the National Christian Center at 10:00 a.m. as part of the calendar of events for the 2023 Presidential Inauguration, and an inaugural dinner and gala night will follow at the State House Conference Center.

The SGF also announced that the Inauguration Parade/Swearing-In exercise will take place in Eagle Square on Monday, May 29, at 10:00 am, and that a Post Inaugural Luncheon will follow immediately after.
