UCL: Dominant Manchester United put 4 past Instabul Basaksehir, PSG struggle against Leipzig

Manchester United recovered from the shocking 2-1 defeat in Turkey prior to the international break with an impressive display at home, devoid of all the errors from their previous encounter against the Turkish side.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice as Manchester United beat Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday to close in on a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Fernandes opened the scoring early on for the hosts with a stunning 20-yard finish before tapping in a second.

Marcus Rashford scored his 75th Manchester United goal from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 before half-time.

Deniz Turuc scored a free-kick late on for the visitors but substitute Daniel James side-footed in to round off the victory.

Tuesday’s game marked the first time United had led by three goals at half-time in a Champions League game at Old Trafford since Roma were routed 7-1 in April 2007.

The result means Manchester United are top of Group H with nine points, three ahead of second-place Paris St-Germain.

PSG 1 – 0 RB Leipzig

In the other game of the group, Neymar’s penalty was enough for Paris Saint-Germain to secure a much needed, but an unconvincing win over RB Leipzig.
