UCL: Manchester United see off Villarreal to book last 16 spot

Two days after parting ways with former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United put up a decent display to see off the Spanish side, Villarreal, and book a place in the Champions League last 16.

Second-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho were enough to hand Michael Carrick, his first win as the interim manager of Manchester United.

Ronaldo’s 78th-minute goal saw him maintain his record of scoring in every game in the champion’s league this season, taking his overall career goals to 799, before Sancho sealed the victory with his first goal for United.

For their next game, the Red Devils will be up against Thomas Tuchel’s high-flying Chelsea at the weekend.
