Wike Under Fire over Comment on Amaechi

The governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, has come under fire from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for calling Rotimi Amaechi, the party’s leader and recently-retired minister of transportation, a complete failure which no longer has access to the presidential villa.

The remarks made by Governor Wike against Amaechi, according to Mr. Darlington Nwauju, the party’s press secretary in Rivers, were ridiculous.

Although the former minister was not amenable to political criticism, he claimed that the party would not permit individuals like Governor Wike to degrade him personally by spreading untruths about him.

Nwauju asserts that Amaechi’s performance as a minister is undisputable because his outstanding accomplishments at the Ministry of Transportation are documented in public documents.

The APC spokesperson in Rivers addressed the governor’s accusation that Amaechi failed to bring federal infrastructure to the state and provided a PowerPoint presentation showcasing 18 projects and human development initiatives in the state that he said were led by the former minister.

He cited a few ongoing projects, such as the N120 billion Bodo-Bonny Road in the state and the ongoing renovation of sections one through four of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The new terminal at the Port Harcourt International Airport, which was started, completed, and inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari, and the breaking of ground for the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line are two additional projects that can be attributed to the effort of the former minister.

Another action taken by the previous minister, according to Nwauju, was the expansion of the country’s ports and development empowerment programs through the Ministry of Transportation’s organisations, such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

He asserts that it is untrue that Amaechi no longer has access to the presidential residence since the former minister still enjoys a fantastic friendship with President Buhari and does not need to be present at the residence to demonstrate his closeness to the first family.
