World Cup; Argentina, Poland through to last 16

Argentina have booked a stop in the last 16 of the World Cup despite Lionel Messi missing a penalty in their final group game against Poland. 

Messi’s penalty got saved by Wojciech Szczesny in the first half, but Argentina went on to win the game 2-0, thanks to second goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvar. 

Messi and his countrymen will take on Australia in their last 16 games. 

While Poland, despite the defeat, is through to the last 16, qualifying ahead of Mexico on goal difference, having leveled on points with Mexico who won Saudi Arabia 2-1. 

The Poles will square up against France in their last 16 games.
