World Cup: Netherlands wear out resilient Senegal

The Netherlands had to dig deep to overcome a rather resilient Senegal side in the first game at the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar.

Both side played out an agonizing goalless through the first to the last six minutes of the second half, before Cody Gakpo, headed home an opener, much to the relief of the Dutch team.

The Senegalese team, who are without star man, Sadio Mane, no thanks to an injury, thought a lone goal would do, but were left heart broken as all their missed chances came to haunt them, when Substitute Davy Klaassen, picked up a rebound to snatch a second goal right in the dead of stoppage time.

The result leaves as joint leaders of Group A, along side Ecuador, who defeated host, Qatar 2-0 in Sunday’s opening game.

It’s just the first game of the tournament and who knows, Senegal could still go ahead to get something of this competition.
